Costume design, Stó:lō drum making, animal portrait painting for fall art classes in Chilliwack

People can now register for fall art classes at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

From textile arts to painting and writing, the selection is more diverse than ever this year.

“The amazing thing about teaching arts and crafts is that there are so many facets – there is always something new to learn,” said the manager. programs, Trischa Buhler. “This fall, we’re excited to add new classes for ages 8-11, such as Art Sampler and Painted Wooden Ornaments, as well as classes for ages 15+. Getting started with cosplaying, learning to fix, and starter mitts will give everyone a new set of techniques and artistic skills that will have their friends wondering, “Where did you learn to do that?”

Those looking to delve into the world of painting and drawing, getting started with watercolors, an introduction to acrylics, pet portraits and the first steps in drawing will leave attendees with many new technics.

As for fiber arts, people can sign up for Crochet for Beginners, Crochet Market Bags, Sewing Machine 101, and Peyote Stitch Beading.

Writing classes continue to bring new creative ventures to the center. Writer’s Workshop Wednesdays, Writer’s Toolkit, and Novel Writing Basics will guide and give students feedback on writing novels and short stories.

People wanting to create their own jewelry, Glass Beads Intro will show people the joys of creating their own beads, while Glass Mosaic will give people the skills to lay glass and grout lines.

For pottery enthusiasts, Handbuilding 1: Intro and Wheel 3: Building Bigger continue to teach new skills while building on existing ones.

Stó:lō Drum Making is a beautiful mix of learning how to make a 16 inch elkhide drum, while listening to some of the history and stories from the instructor.

Getting started with cosplay – Armor will help people through the basics of costume making with fabric and EVA foam to create their own costumes.

Of course there is also something for children. Art Mashup will guide kids through the joys of creating through mixed media, while Crochet for Kids shows kids the basics of working with fiber arts and the endless amount of things they can do.

There’s even a creative outlet for people to practice art at their own pace with the Open Glass Studio, Open Clay Studio, and Life Drawing Studio. Open studios provide space to hone skills in glass bead and mosaic making, drawing and painting, and wheel or hand practice. These are non-pedagogical sessions and are the perfect place to practice the skills learned in the classroom.
