CLEMSON, SC (FOX Caroline) –Clemson associate athletic director Jeff Kallin on Friday said the college student-athletes have collaborated to design and release a t-shirt that carries a message of unity.
Jeff Kallin said the student-athletes are using their platforms for change by designing and creating a t-shirt with the word “UNITY” on it. on this subject, in an effort of solidarity and speaking out on questions of social justice.
Amelia Jones, who competes in cross country and track and field, said, “We wanted to have a visual representation that Clemson Athletics is supporting minority groups and against oppression. We wanted to show that injustices continue.
The student-athletes have declared the movement towards the creation of “UNITY”. The design was to represent the unity of the sports department that emerged from a Tigers Unite town hall meeting in early July.
Anthony Hines, one of the assistant directors of student-athlete development at Clemson, said in a press release: “At this meeting, a group was formed to come up with ideas for our movement. This is where CODE was reestablished and a request for a shirt was made.
Hines said CODE stands for Commission on Diverse Empowerment and is represented by members of every Clemson sports team with a unified mission to educate and emphasize the importance of cultural diversity.
“We hope this design creates more conversations in Clemson homes,” Hines said. “Whether it is with a peer or a member of your family, we hope that conversations will take place about what is happening in the world and how we can change it.”
The student-athletes at Clemson University said they aim to influence other schools and groups to come together and embrace diversity in their teams and universities.
Kallin said a portion of the proceeds will go to supporting selected local Clemson organizations that strengthen unity and inclusion in their global mission. A different organization will be chosen by student-athlete vote at the end of each term.
Kallin also stated that the student-athletes will wear the “UNITY”. shirt on many game days and fans can purchase the shirt here or at a local Clemson licensed product retailer.

The t-shirts are available for sale from Friday September 11, 2020.
