AEW Makeup Artist Dani Dinino Discusses Sting, Darby Allin & CM Punk’s Last Minute Paint

At AEW Dynamite Holiday Bash, Sting teamed up with CM Punk and Darby Allin to take on FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) and MJF.

Punk, Sting and Allin showed unity before the game when they pulled out sporty face paint that paid tribute to their teammates.

Punk had Sting face paint in Chicago colors, Allin had his Sting-like half-paint, and Sting had punk credentials in his face paint.

speaking on A2theK wrestling showAEW makeup artist Dani Dinino explained how last minute the idea was.

“These guys literally came to see me about 30 minutes before I got on stage. Sting still does his own painting. Sting is the only wrestler to come into this job, he’s the only wrestler I know. When he comes to paint , especially in the beginning, that one made me nervous. It’s the only one I was super nervous to do. That’s the thing with Sting, because he usually does his own looks, that’s still very… I’ve done him a couple of times and it was at the very last minute “If Dani has time, let me jump on the chair and we’ll make him do this.” kind of where else he’ll do it himself. They came in, it was maybe an hour before the game, and he said “I want this” and he brought me a fist print and lightning bolt “I want this and I want you to put it on my forehead.” I looked at him like, ‘Are you sure?’ “Yeah, that’s what I want. I was so nervous on that one. He’s very particular about how he looks” she says.

Dani went on to say, “I learned with him, let me hand him the mirror and have him check it out as you go. When you do this to yourself a lot, they get used to the way they like their stuff really well, and I get that. On that one, I literally cut it out and taped it to his face first so he could see where I was going, and said ‘okay’. Then I Everyone loves this one, which I did I don’t know if it was going to be a hit or a miss, but everyone loved it and they turned it into a toy. look of punk he came in and had the picture of Sting that he wanted me to copy and then he wanted me to have him do the colors of Chicago Both are such icons it was very nerve-wracking to do their painting Guys don’t like to sit there for long either. I get it, I’m not one to like to stay and get things done either, but they’re more like, ‘Okay, that’s good enough, we’re going to go”, and I say to myself, “No, I have to solve this problem”. They’re extremely popular and will be on TV and if it’s messed up, it’s my fault. It was annoying, but a lot of people really liked this look, so I’m glad it got good reviews.

AEW released a shirt immortalizing the war paint worn by the three and Diamond Select Toys released a two-pack of Sting and Punk with the paint on.

Punk, Allin and Sting were all featured on AEW television on Wednesday, with Sting helping Allin in his casket match and Punk returning at the end of the show. If you missed anything from AEW Dynamite, check out Fightful’s full report on the show by clicking here.
